| Don·ner Pass [ dònnər páss ] pass in the Sierra Nevada, northeastern California, near Lake Tahoe. It is named for the Donner Party, a group of migrants from Illinois who are believed to have resorted to cannibalism when they were snowed in on their way to California over the winter of 1846-1847. |
