war memorial in London: a monument in London that serves as a memorial to the dead of wars involving British forces since World War I. Designed by Sir Edward Lutyens and erected in Whitehall in 1921, it is the site where heads of state and royalty lay poppy wreaths in a ceremony on Remembrance Sunday.
