adjective
Definition:

relating to lower back: relating to or situated in the loins or the small of the back

[Mid-17th century. < medieval Latin lumbaris< Latin lumbus "loin"]

Spelling Note

lumbar or lumber? Do not confuse the spelling of lumbar and lumber, which sound similar. The adjective lumbar is used in medical expressions referring to the lower part of the back, as in the lumbar vertebrae, a lumbar puncture.
