Cultural Note

The Naked Lunch, a novel (1959) by William S. Burroughs. This controversial portrayal of drug abuse, written by Burroughs in Tunisia as he attempted to free himself of his own addiction, consists of a series of surreal episodes linked by themes and characters and described in language that is by turns clinical, hallucinatory, poetic, and scatological.
