plinth [ plinth ] (plural plinths)

Definition:
 
1. supporting block: a square block beneath a column, pedestal, or statue

2. supporting part of wall: the part of the wall of a building immediately above the ground, usually a course of stones or bricks

3. part of doorframe: the square block at the base on each side of a doorframe

4. flat base: a flat block used as a base for something, e.g. underneath a heavy machine
