Definition:
 
possession of survival traits: an anatomical or behavioral feature of an organism that is highly suited to an adjacent habitat, thus allowing for migration and increased survival rate in response to environmental change. The lungs that have developed in some fish were probably originally buoyancy aids, but became used for breathing air.
