Definition:
 
1. having attention taken up with something: completely absorbed in thinking about something or doing something, sometimes to the extent of neglecting other things
She was too preoccupied to notice what was going on.

2. occupied: already occupied by somebody or something else
a preoccupied airline seat

3. biology already in use: describes a scientific name that has already been used to designate a species, genus, or other taxonomic group and therefore cannot be used again
