1. head of state of republic: the head of state, or head of state and chief political executive, of a republic

2. highest-ranking member of association: the highest-ranking member of an organization or institution

3. head of company: the highest-ranking executive officer of a business or corporation

4. head of educational or governmental establishment: the highest-ranking executive officer of some universities, colleges, government departments, legal divisions, and other public offices

5. somebody in charge of meeting: somebody who is appointed or elected to oversee a meeting
