transitive verb 
Definition:
 
1. require something as prior condition: to make something necessary if a particular thing is to be shown to be true or false. The sentence "Fred loves his daughter" presupposes that Fred has a daughter.

2. assume something in advance: to believe that a particular thing is true before there is any proof of it
the tendency to presuppose that everybody will understand English
