purposely or purposefully? These two adverbs are sometimes confused. Although both imply that somebody has a specific purpose in mind, they are used in different contexts and are not interchangeable. Purposely means "deliberately or with an express purpose in mind": I purposely left the door unlocked. Purposefully means "in a determined way" or "with a definite goal": She strode purposefully across the yard.
