1. act of chasing after something: the act of chasing after somebody or something in order to catch, attack, or overtake that person or thing
in pursuit of the stolen car

2. hobby: a pastime, hobby, or leisure activity

3. act of striving for something: the effort made to try to achieve or obtain something over a period of time
the pursuit of happiness

4. U.K. cycle race with object of overtaking: a cycle race in which the riders start from points on opposite sides of a circular track and race to overtake each other rather than to reach a set finishing line first
