Definition:
 
1. delay dealing with something: to fail to take action on or reveal something over a period of time, although in a position to do so
The government sat on the information for weeks.

2. suppress something: to put a stop to something or prevent it from going ahead

3. nag somebody: to nag somebody continually
You'll have to sit on him if you want this done on time.

4. quell somebody: to prevent somebody from saying or doing anything more, especially by means of a crushing remark or rebuke
