1. member of Balkan people: a member of a southeastern European people who in the 13th century founded the principalities of Walachia and Moldavia, later merged to become Romania. Vlachs now live mainly in the mountainous regions of the Balkans, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Albania, or northern Greece.

2. Romance dialect: a language of the Romance family that is spoken in southeastern Europe, especially by the Vlach people. Native speakers: 300,000.
