Definition:
 
1. somebody being addressed: refers to the person or people being addressed or written to
Be careful not to hurt yourself.

2. making reference to somebody spoken to: refers emphatically or politely to the person or people being addressed or written to
"Consider," he replied, "how you yourself really feel about such things."

3. your normal self: your normal or usual self
You are not yourself tonight.


Word Usage

The primary uses of yourself are as a reflexive pronoun (Don't hurt yourself) and as an emphatic pronoun (Can you do it yourself?). In formal writing it should not be used as an alternative for you in sentences of the type: That's up to you [not up to yourself].
