Si·be·ri·a [ sī bree ə ]vast region of eastern Russia, extending from the Ural Mountains in the west to the Pacific Ocean in the east, and from the Arctic Ocean in the North to China, Mongolia, and Kazakhstan in the south. Much of it is frozen for over half the year. Sparsely populated, it was used during Soviet rule (1917-1991) as a place of exile.
