Shatt al-Ar·ab [ shàt al árrəb, sht al árrəb ] river in Southwest Asia. It rises at the confluence of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, flows along the border between Iran and Iraq, and empties into the Persian Gulf, near Kuwait.
