Pyong·yang [ pyáwng yàng ] or P'yǒng·yang [ pyáwng yàng ] capital city of North Korea, situated on the Taedong River in the western part of the country. It is thought to be the oldest city on the Korean Peninsula.
Population: 3,228,000 (2003 estimate).
