1. city and deep-water port in southeastern Texas, on the Sabine Lake. Linked to the Gulf of Mexico by the Sabine-Neches Canal, it is the largest gasoline-refining center in the United States. Population: 55,745 (2006).
2. town in Australia, in southern Tasmania. It was the site of a major penal settlement between 1830 and 1837. Population: 190 (1994).
