Ba·ra·nof Is·land [ bárrə nàwf lənd, bárrə nòf lənd ] island off southeastern Alaska, part of the Alexander Archipelago. It is named for the first governor of the Russian colony of Alaska, Aleksandr Baranov (1746-1819).
