1. city in northeastern Massachusetts, on Massachusetts Bay, northeast of Boston. It was the site of witchcraft trials and executions in 1692. Population: 41,756 (2005 estimate).
2. capital city of Oregon, on the Willamette River, in the northwest of the state. Population: 152,239 (2006).
