Definition:
 
1. freedom from danger: protection from, or not being exposed to, the risk of harm or injury
a safety device
The captain is responsible for the safety of the crew.

2. lack of danger: inability to cause or result in harm, injury, or damage
People are beginning to question the safety of the medication.

3. safe place: a place or situation where harm, damage, or loss is unlikely
She led the passengers to safety.

4. being unharmed or undamaged: the fact of being or remaining unharmed, uninjured, or undamaged
There are fears for their safety.

5. device preventing unintentional operation: a device designed to prevent a mechanism from being operated unintentionally, e.g. one that keeps a gun from being fired by accident or an elevator from falling

6. defensive back: in football, a player defending the back of the field

7. play giving points to defensive team: in football, a play in which a member of the offensive team downs the ball intentionally or unintentionally in his own end zone, resulting in the defensive team being awarded two points
