Spelling Note
plain or plane?

Do not confuse the spelling of plain and plane, which sound similar. Plain is more frequently used as an adjective and plane as a noun. As an adjective, plain means "clearly visible," "simply understood," or "lacking any pattern or coloration," as in a plain fabric, whereas plane simply means "flat and level" or "two-dimensional," as in a plane surface. As a noun related to the adjective, plane denotes (among other things) a flat surface or a level, as in different planes of existence, whereas plain simply denotes a large expanse of flat land, as in a treeless plain. There are several other nouns plane, denoting an aircraft, a tool, and a tree.
