Definition:
 
1. place to put messages: a small compartment that is part of a set in a desk or wall unit into which papers or messages can be sorted or placed

2. broad category: a category or label assigned to somebody or something without a great deal of thought
the tendency to put writers into pigeonholes

3. birds pigeon's nesting compartment: a small nesting hole in a shelter for domestic pigeons
