Definition:
 
1. transitive verb put something in parentheses: to enclose part of a written or printed passage in parentheses

2. transitive verb add something as extra comment: to add a word, phrase, or opinion as an extra comment that is not wholly related to what is being said

3. transitive and intransitive verb insert extra comments: to break up speech or writing with extra comments added throughout
