1. having length and width: describes a figure that has length and width but no depth, e.g. a geometric figure on a single plane

2. done on flat surface: describes works of art such as paintings and drawings that exist on a flat surface, as opposed to art forms such as sculpture that also have depth

3. having no depth of character: lacking the emotional or psychological depth that creates the impression of realism
