tro·car [ trṓ kr ] (plural tro·cars)

Definition:
 
fluid-extracting instrument: a sharply pointed steel rod sheathed with a tight-fitting cylindrical tube cannula, used together to drain or extract fluid from a body cavity. The whole instrument is inserted then the trocar is removed, leaving the cannula in place.
