member of Native Central American people: a member of a Native Central American people who formerly lived in central Mexico and were succeeded by the Aztecs. They dominated the area between the 10th and the 12th centuries ad, when they were defeated by the Chichimecs, and their lands were later taken over by the Aztecs.
