Ti·bet [ tə bét ] former independent state in and to the north of the Himalayan range, since 1965 a province-level administrative region of China. With an average elevation of more than 4,000 m (12,000 ft), it is the highest region in the world. Capital: Lhasa. Population: 2,701,700 (2003 estimate).
