Definition:
 
1. place on top of another: to place or lay one object on top of or above another

2. make geometric figures coincide: to move one geometric figure so that it coincides exactly with another

[Early 19th century. Probably < French superposer, back-formation < superposition "superposing" < Latin superponere "place over" < super- "over, above" + ponere "to place"]
