Cultural Note

Superman, a comic strip created by U.S. writer Jerry Siegal and drawn by U.S. artist Joseph Shuster that first appeared in 1938. The alter ego of "mild-mannered reporter" Clark Kent is Superman, an almost invincible crime-fighting superhero in a red cape, who was originally sent to Earth as a child from the doomed planet Krypton. The story has been made into radio shows, musicals, television series, and feature movies.
