style [ stīl ]


noun  (plural styles)
Definition:
 
1. distinctive form: a distinctive and identifiable form in an artistic medium such as music, architecture, or literature
a facade in the neoclassical style
a different style of jazz

2. way of doing something: a way of doing something, especially a way regarded as expressing a particular attitude or typifying a particular period ( often used in combination )
a hands-on management style
old-style politics
Confrontation just isn't his style.

3. way of writing or performing: the way in which something is written or performed, as distinct from its content

4. flair: impressive flair in the way something is done, especially a quality that suggests a self-confident willingness to exhibit skill or good taste
furnished with impeccable style

5. fashion: the prevailing or customary fashion
a look that has gone out of style

6. cut of hair or clothing: a way in which clothes or hair are cut or shaped
dressed in all the latest styles

1. shape something: to give something a particular shape or design
hair styled in the most up-to-date fashion

2. cause something to conform: to bring something into conformity with a style

3. name somebody: to give somebody or something a name or title ( formal )

cramp somebody's style to restrict what somebody is able to do or would like to do, often by limiting the person's capacity to impress others (informal)
