1. rider's foot support: a flat-bottomed metal ring hanging from a strap on each side of a horse's saddle to provide support for a rider's foot

2. supporting strap: a loop or strap that supports a foot or passes under a foot, e.g. the straps supporting a woman's feet in childbirth

3. nautical ship's rope: one of a set of ropes hanging from a sail-supporting spar yard on a ship. Loops at the bottom allow another rope for standing on to be threaded through.
