verb  (past and past participle stood [ std ], present participle stand·ing, 3rd person present singular stands)
Definition:
 
1. transitive and intransitive verb be or set upright: to be in an upright position, or put something in an upright position
I was standing to the left of him.
Stand the box in the corner.

2. intransitive verb get up on feet: to get up into an upright position from a sitting or lying position
The newborn foal tried to stand but only collapsed again.

3. intransitive verb be in particular place: to be situated or positioned in a particular place
The castle stands on a headland.

4. intransitive verb be in particular state: to be in a particular condition or state
The old place stands in need of a few repairs.
The document can't be published as it stands.

5. intransitive verb measure in height: to be of a particular height when upright
He stood six feet tall.

6. intransitive verb be at particular point: to be at a particular point while subject to change or fluctuation
The balance of the account stands at $400.
