Is it wise to overextend -wise?
Many critics object to words ending in the suffix -wise when the meaning is "with regard to, with respect to," as in these controversial examples: moneywise, timewise, and politicswise, as in Politicswise, this has been an exciting year. The use of words ending in -wise is acceptable when the meaning of the suffix is "in a particular manner or direction," as in clockwise, counterclockwise, and lengthwise.
