1. city in northern Delaware. Situated on the Delaware River, it is the largest city in the state. Population: 72,826 (2006).
2. city in southeastern North Carolina on the Cape Fear River. It is the state's principal seaport and an important commercial center. Population: 90,644 (2002 estimate).
