1. European fish: a small edible sea fish with a silvery underside, related to the cod, commercially important throughout Europe. Native to: Europe.  Latin name Merlangus merlangus.

2. Pacific and Atlantic fish: a commercially important fish that is similar to the European whiting, e.g. the silver hake or corbina. Native to: Pacific and Atlantic oceans.  Genera Merluccius, Menticirrhus.
