fundamental interaction involved with radioactive decay: the fundamental interaction between elementary particles that is mediated by the W and Z particles. It is involved in radioactive decay, which occurs by electron production, and particle decay. One of the four fundamental interactions, it is only effective at distances of less than 10-15 m and is a trillion times weaker than the strong interaction.
