Definition:
 
1. painful: painful or tender because of an injury, infection, or unaccustomed exercise

2. annoying: causing annoyance or embarrassment
Her dismissal has always been a sore point.

3. upset: angry or irritated, especially because of something said or done by another person in the recent past ( informal )
He was still sore because I kidded him about his tie.

4. urgent: requiring urgent action to provide relief
The survivors of the flood are in sore need of help.

5. distressing: causing great worry or distress ( literary )
The child's illness was a sore trial to her entire family.
