industrial process for producing sodium carbonate: an industrial process for producing sodium carbonate or washing soda from common salt. A solution of salt is saturated with ammonia and carbon dioxide is passed through it, which causes sodium hydrogen carbonate to precipitate. It is then heated to obtain sodium carbonate.
