Spelling Note


	sea or see? Do not confuse the spelling of sea and see, which sound similar. Sea denotes a large body of water, as in the Mediterranean Sea, and is used figuratively in such phrases as a sea of faces. See is chiefly used as a verb, meaning "perceive with the eyes," "have a clear understanding," etc.: She couldn't see him anywhere. I see what you mean. There is also a different word see, a noun, referring to the area of jurisdiction of a bishop or archbishop.
