noun  (plural snor·kels)
Definition:
 
1. breathing apparatus: a curved tube that projects above the water and enables somebody to breathe while swimming face-down near the surface

2. ventilator on submarine: a shaft on a diesel-powered submarine for ventilation and for engine intake and exhaust, which enables the submarine to stay submerged near the surface for long periods

3. device on tank: a device on a tank or other vehicle that functions like the snorkel on a submarine and enables the vehicle to go through shallow water
