Snake doctor, the Piedmont term for "dragonfly," has spread across the Upper and Middle South, from Virginia to Arkansas and Texas. The Pennsylvania term snake feeder endures in eastern sections of Kentucky and Tennessee and the western parts of the Carolinas. Elsewhere, along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts, mosquito hawk prevails, with the clipped form skeeter hawk. See also darning needle.
