Definition:
 
1. pigment: pigment or dye made from soil that contains oxides of iron and manganese

2. soil used for pigments and dyes: a soil that yields umber. It is dark yellowish brown in its natural state raw umber, and dark reddish-brown when roasted burnt umber.
