1. stem of plant: the cylindrical and sometimes hollow stem of a marsh plant. Use: weaving baskets and mats, caning chairs. ( often used before a noun )

2. plant growing in wet areas: a marsh plant with stems that are rushes and leaves that resemble blades of grass. Genus Juncus.
