Cultural Note

On the Road, a novel (1957) by Jack Kerouac. A thinly disguised memoir, it describes a series of cross-country trips undertaken by a group of people united by their quest for new experiences and disregard for traditional values. It is both an engaging chronicle of the Beat generation and a lyrical evocation of the energy and passion of youth.
