scissors

scis·sors [ sízzərz ] (plural scis·sors)

Definition:
 
1. instrument for cutting something: a hand-held cutting instrument made up of two crossed connected blades, each with a ring-shaped handle, that pivot on each other and cut as they come together ( takes a plural verb )

2. gymnastics movement: in gymnastics, a movement of the legs that resembles the opening and closing of scissors

3. technique in high-jumping: in the high jump, a simple technique of clearing the bar sideways with a leading leg and then the other in a fast separating and closing movement. This technique is now rarely used.

4. wrestling
