reversion

noun  (plural re·ver·sions)
Definition:
 
1. return to former condition: a return to an earlier condition often perceived as less desirable or inferior

2. reversal: a change to the opposite direction

3. genetics return to original characteristics: the restoration of the normal genetic constitution in a mutant organism, e.g. by means of a second mutation that cancels out the effects of an earlier one

4. genetics reverted organism: an organism that has reverted to ancestral genetic characteristics

5. law return to former owner: the return of property to its former owner or his or her heirs at the end of a specific period, usually when the present owner dies

6. law property returned to former owner: property that has been returned to its former owner or his or her heirs

7. law right to inherit property: the right to succeed to property, granted to somebody by the former owner
