slipstream

slip·stream [ slíp strm ]


noun  (plural slip·streams)
Definition:
 
1. area behind fast-moving vehicle: an area of reduced air pressure and forward suction that is directly behind and caused by a rapidly moving vehicle

2. air from propeller: a stream of air driven backward by an aircraft's propeller



intransitive verb  (past and past participle slip·streamed, present participle slip·stream·ing, 3rd person present singular slip·streams)

follow in slipstream: to follow in another vehicle's slipstream, taking advantage of the decreased air resistance
