Definition:
 
1. modify something with new parts: to modify something such as a machine or a building by adding newly developed parts or devices that were not available when the machine or building was made
older cars retrofitted with catalytic converters

2. install new parts: to install newly developed parts or devices into a machine or building, that were not available when the machine or building was made
retrofit a microchip in the alarm system
