Spelling Note

retch or wretch? Do not confuse the spelling of retch and wretch, which sound similar. Retch is a noun or verb referring to a spasm of vomiting or trying to vomit, as in a foul smell that made him retch. Wretch is a noun denoting a person who arouses pity, irritation, or contempt: The poor wretch had nowhere else to go.
